Chapter Philanthropy & Service
Hey y’all! My name is Sara Catherine Rogers and I am the philanthropy coordinator for the Gamma Alpha chapter of Alpha Gamma Delta. As philanthropy coordinator, I can personally attest to the hard work and dedication that each sister puts forth as we strive both as a chapter and as individuals to adhere to our Purpose. Proceeds from our events benefit all Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation programs including scholarships, leadership initiatives, diabetes research and education, and more. We consistently raise over $10,000 for the cause each year and I am determined to beat that number this year!
Every fall, we host Mr. Milledge, a fraternity competition. Each fraternity on campus has a representative strut his stuff on stage in hopes to be crowned the winner. This competition consists of three rounds which include best Gameday outfit, best pick-up line, and a unique talent. It’s a night full of laughs and cute boys!Last year was our 5th annual Mr. Milledge, and Southern Fried Cotton was our sponsor. Jordan Rowe (Alpha Gamma Rho) was crowned Mr. Milledge, Brady Eastin (Phi Delta Theta) was crowned Crowd Favorite, and Jack Haidet (Sigma Pi) was crowned Mr. Congeniality. We raised over $6,400 for diabetes research and education! Check out this article to watch the highlights:
Additionally, we participate in the Athens Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation One Walk every October! We make t-shirts, snacks, and a banner to celebrate. The Gamma Alpha Alumnae Chapter also hosts a team. Be on the lookout for information about how to join or support our team this fall!
This past spring, we hosted our second annual Let’s Dia-BEAT This! benefit concert. Jordan Rowe, the winner of Mr. Milledge, opened the show, and Eric Dodd and his band headlined. The concert was a huge success!
In addition to these events, our sisters also support our community through semesterly blood drives. Additionally, many Alpha Gams are involved in campus philanthropic organizations like Relay for Life, UGA Miracle, UGA HEROs, and more. Sisters logged over 20,000 volunteer hours last year! We strive to be active members not only within our sorority, but within the Athens community.
